Frequently asked questions.
Do I have to commit to every meeting?
The beauty of Spuddies Book Club is that this a club made and tailored for our members. EVERYONE is welcome and we do not have the expectation of you being able to make every meeting. Come when you are able and meet some amazing women as you start or continue your reading journey!
How often do you meet?
Our club meets once a month (generally Saturdays 1:00-3:00pm) over a book that is voted for by the majority. Within that one monthly meet expect to play some games and do some activities while having book discussion. Some of the activities that have been done so far are: blind date with a book, reader’s basket exchange, Bridgerton themed tea party, and much more!
We have also started integrating “mini” meets into our club. A mini meet is an opportunity to meet up with a designated leader from the SBC community who heads up a certain genre. These mini meets normally happen once a month and provide a great opportunity for those who may like a smaller setting or a specific genre of book to get together. The mini meets we have available are: Romance, Fantasy, Thriller, and Spice. You can stay updated with these through our social media pages as well as the Book Clubs App.
I want to join but I don’t know if I can commit financially to the activities planned…what do I do?
A perk about our club is that you do not have to join in on the activity planned for that month to come. You matter and we want you there to participate and have fun! We have members who come and choose not to participate in the activity, but still read the book and join in the discussion.
Where does the club usually meet?
As our club has members from all across the Treasure Valley we try and accommodate as best we can to our members. We have held meetings in downtown Boise, coffee shops in Meridian, members houses in Nampa, local parks, etc. Check out our post “SBC Carpool” on our social media pages to find a spuddie that may live close to you that you can catch a ride with :)
Who is the bookclub for?
Our club is geared towards young women in their 20s-30s who love to read and live in or near the Treasure Valley of Idaho.
How are books chosen?
Before the next month surveys are sent out asking for recommendations of books to read as a club. The club then votes for the books either via social media or in person. The book with the highest majority vote is the one we pick. This is a great opportunity to try out a new genre!
Do I have to read/have finished the book to come to a meeting?
This is a very low pressure environment geared towards all types of readers. We understand that life can get in the way and some books are just a STRUGGLE to get through for some people. We value your voice and believe that you can still bring valuable insight and life experiences to our group. Our focus is building a supportive community of women who also bond over books :)
